The traditional and timeless patterns of Anatolia make our vintage cushions something very special. They are the mystical symbols of a millennia-old nomadic tradition that are intended to bless the home and its inhabitants with love, blessing and protection. High-quality materials such as hand-spun sheep's wool, goat hair or cotton connect us with the energy of Mother Earth. This cushion cover was sewn with love in the Wild Heart Free Soul Atelier in Istanbul from a fragment of a handwoven midcentury vintage kilim. The back is made of recycled cotton and has a high-quality zipper. The kilim was professionally cleaned before further processing; Age-related wear and tear and natural imperfections are inevitable in unique, handcrafted vintage rugs.
REGION OF ORIGIN Central Anatolia MANUFACTURING PROCESS All of our vintage kilims and rugs are completely handmade. The sheep's wool yarn was spun and dyed by hand. The high lanolin content makes the high-quality sheep's wool shine particularly beautifully. After the time-consuming production of the yarn, the kilim was woven by hand on a traditional wooden loom. This process usually took several months and sometimes even over a year. CLEANING AND RESTORATION Our cleaning process takes place cyclically and in harmony with nature. Our carpets are only cleaned once a year at the beginning of summer. For this we only use water and pure olive soap. We then work with the power of the sun to intensify the cleaning process. The strong sun in Antalya between June and September bleaches stubborn stains and discolorations, removes odors, is antibacterial and keeps moths and insects away. Thanks to the power of nature, we can completely avoid environmentally harmful chemicals. Our kilims are then mechanically dusted and sent to Istanbul. In our studio in Sultanahmet, each carpet is individually shaped, the ends are re-knotted, and holes and discolored areas are reconstructed true to the original. The complete cleaning and restoration process takes between six months to two years, depending on the carpet.
MATERIAL Sheep wool is a natural and high-quality material. All of our vintage and antique rugs are woven from hand-spun sheep's wool yarn. This wool is tear-resistant and has a high proportion of lanolin (wool fat). This makes the wool particularly dirt-resistant, water-repellent and antibacterial. Sheep's wool is also a living material that becomes softer and shinier over the years through use and the influence of sun, air and water. A material that ages beautifully, is completely environmentally friendly and free of harmful substances, cleans itself and regenerates itself. CARE With loving treatment and regular care, a Wild Heart Free Soul kilim will still look like it did on the first day, even after many years of use. Real kilims therefore last for several generations. Our kilims require little but proper care. A kilim should be carefully vacuumed or tapped regularly. You can almost always remove stains with a slightly damp cloth. Leftover food can easily be scraped off or brushed out when it has dried. A kilim should not remain wet for a long time because this can cause it to warp. That's why we don't recommend doing your own laundry. If you feel the need to treat your kilim to a wash, please contact a trustworthy carpet cleaner or us. We offer our customers discounted conditions for carpet cleaning and restoration.
